The two quite different Chinese language formats - Simplified Chinese(with few strokes in a character used in China, Singapore, Malaysia) andTraditional Chinese (with more strokes in the same character use in Taiwan,Hong Kong and the rest of world), create a lot ofproblems for libraries which have one (or the other) version ofcomputerized Chinese catalogue database.
Most libraries need to cater for both groups of Chinese readers. However,maintaining two versions of Chinese catalogue systems costs lots oftime and resources. More importantly, such duplicatedcatalogue system can be error-prone (such as miss-matched records)over time.
Identifying the needs,
